Fascinating read about the history of Indian languages and the fusions of different cultures that have influenced the development of its scripts...well researched!
Thank you, and I am glad you enjoyed this piece. I find languages and scripts very exciting, but all the research and writing work seems even more worthwhile when my readers like the output!
Thanks for your meticulous and enriching research and clarity of writing. Really love Eaten by a Fish and the hard work, effort and skill that goes into producing your lovely newsletter with such regularity. Reading about the Santhali script being recently developed reminded me of the Gondi script in Maharashtra. The Gonds have rich oral traditions but their script was usually dependent on the regions they lived in till recently( Devnagri/ Tamil or Telegu for example). Thank you for your very kind words, and for the link to the Masaram Gondi script. It is interesting to know that the script, though created in 1918 was adopted as the official script for the Gondi language only as recently as 2011.
I have been searching for more information on the scripts of India, with very little success. Information on individual scripts is hard to come by, and as for a comprehensive resource, it seems to be non-existent. I therefore truly appreciate this information on Masaram Gondi - which I did not find while researching this piece.
