In 1574, Tulsidas commenced the composition of his Ramcharitmanas. Tulsi’s epic poem became, and remains, the dominant and accepted version of Ram’s story in the Hindi-speaking north.
Interesting to read what is known about Tulsidas as a person and that he wrote in the local language for the common man. The opening verse of his work is enchanting and entices one to read on...
Vimala, glad to know you found Tulsi's work interesting. :) My apologies for being so slow to respond, I have been underground, working. Tulsi intersperses the tale with a lot of philosophy, and his take on all kinds of things, from caste to kaliyuga, some of which is offensive today. But if you do read Tulsi ever, I'd recommend you take those bits in context, and focus instead on his poetry - which is incerdible - and the intellectual genius of the man.
Interesting and well written!
