In our earlier post, ‘Dating the Rigveda’, we saw the free composition of hymns by various priest-poets/bardic families for the particular tribal king or chieftain they served, and the compilation and organisation of these hymns in c.1000 BCE into the collection we know today as the Rigveda. Before we dive into the hymns themselves, let us take a quick look at the structure of the Rigveda.
