Superb article, Vijay. I learnt a lot about a great person who I've heard so much about but never really knew. Your English versions of his poems are excellent! Thanks for posting this...

Excellent piece Vijay. Beautiful introduction to a great poet about whom I did not know much. Your English translations of his poems are amazing. Pity he did not even get to celebrate his 39th birthday.

Extremely illuminating piece on Bharathi - enjoyed the translations of the poetry and also was inspired by how far ahead of his time he was on social justice. Kudos to Vijay on capturing the essence of Bharathi
I learnt a lot about your favourite poet - thank you Vijay! His thinking was way ahead of his time. My favourite is the one on gender equality. Your explanation of your take on ‘aap’ vs ‘tu’ was mind opening.

Beatiful tribute to a poet, social reformer, a freedom fighter, a man ahead of his time and a baktha. Bharathi as stated by Vijay needs be considered equal to kamban, Valluvar and Illango.

Loved reading this article especially the section on Bharathi as the social reformer. Read your translation of his poems on caste and women’s empowerment and then looked up the originals as well. Fabulously executed.
