Thanks, Vimala! The real master of language was Jainendra. His stories and novels stand apart in Hindi literature. Do read his works If possible - his stories are an education!
I am glad you enjoyed the summary. I feel it does not do full justice to the original. The novel is so nuanced that it is difficult to capture everything in a single post. For instance, I haven't spoken at all about Pramod's conflicts, the fact that at the end he realises that he failed Mrinal, and the reasons for that failure. And there is the turmoil of Mrinal's brother, and to an extent, that of his wife as well. What I really like about this novel is how relevant it still is, and the discussions that it still enables.
Hi Rohini, your command of both languages is evident in the rewriting of this complex human story.
