It's been two years!
We began our exploration of Indian literature two years ago with this small snippet of a fact:
Since then, Eaten by a Fish has looked at a range of literary texts, ancient, medieval, and modern, and topics such as the history of printing, translation, children’s literature and modern crime fiction in India, and answered questions from our readers on topics as varied as the Rigveda, Ghalib’s Urdu diwans, and the scripts of India.
In these two years, Fish has also gathered a small and growing community around it. Many of its readers contribute regularly to the discourse by writing in via comments or email, or sometimes, even calling or messaging directly with observations, questions and suggestions. My heartfelt gratitude to them—they are the reason I started writing Fish and why I continue to keep this publication alive.
Writers, translators, illustrators and publishers have also given generously of their time to Fish and shared here their thoughts, opinions, and experiences. Whatever I say about the patience and sincerity with which they have answered my questions will be too little. My deepest thanks to them.
Very special thanks are due to Vijay Santhanam, for his insightful and very accessible articles on Subramaniya Bharathi, modern Tamil’s greatest poet, and Valluvan and his Thirukurral. His articles have been amongst the most popular on Fish. We hope to bring you more from him soon!
As we embark on our third year, I would like to hear from you, my readers.
So tell me:
The poll only allows one choice and is open only for one week. The options I can give on the poll are also limited. So in case the choices here haven’t covered everything, or there is something more you’d like to say or suggest, please write in and tell me.
Thank you for reading Eaten by a Fish. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber!
